Bar Goa – New Age India to give it its full title comes with a pleasing helping of authenticity and earnestness. The focus is ostensibly on the food of Goa – the classic, creamy Goan prawn curry is particularly good – but there are plenty of dishes from other Indian states, such as Punjabi goat shank and keema pao, that also demonstrate the care, attention and understanding of this kitchen; there’s even the occasional whimsical presentation. A great dish to kick things off is the appam, which comes generously loaded with fresh white crab meat – it’s delicious. If you have time on your hands and a healthy appetite, consider going for their seven-course tasting menu which is also available in a vegetarian version.
