With just six tables, there is a cosy feel to this little restaurant with clean, unfussy décor. Dishes are fed by produce from the surrounding area, including Helmsley Walled Garden and the Castle Howard estate, while the tasting menu – available in 4 or 8 courses – begins with a ‘wastage’ dish which uses up offcuts from the other courses. The cooking showcases a range of textures and flavours, sometimes with an imaginative touch. Foraged cocktails, a short but appealing choice of wines and personable service round out the experience.
