Description

Run by Richard van Oostenbrugge and Thomas Groot, the renowned duo behind Restaurant 212, this is a bistro of the old school. As you enter this charming, lively place in the bustling Utrechtsestraat, you receive a warm welcome from the chefs, and delicious aromas waft towards you. You quickly get the feeling there are no obligations and yet anything is possible. The entire à la carte menu is a real treat for any foodie.
The chefs are not afraid to use lesser-known ingredients such as oxtail and zander. The intensity of their no-nonsense dishes makes a convincing case for why this overlooked produce is deserving of more attention. Veal kidneys, for example, are served with an irresistible creamy sauce based on a veal stock with a shellfish jus. The zander is candied in smoked butter, topped with zolderspek (smoky bacon) and goose liver, and combined with roasted quince and the strength and acidity of sauerkraut. At De Juwelier, they keep things straightforward and yet will still surprise you with traditional rich flavours, modern freshness and French finesse – a feast like in the old days!
